March 2021 Meeting

No Pandemic is going to keep us down......we came together in good fashion for our March 2021 Meeting by the miracle of Zoom once again.

After calling our monthly meeting to order, Joan shared information from the National EGA Meeting she was able to watch last week.

  • 2021 Seminar is scheduled for sometime in August or September.   It will take place in Chicago and if necessary, will be done virtually.  For updates and more information go to the EGA website at egausa.org
  • The topic of marketing for recruiting new members was discussed.  EGA is using InstaGram, Facebook and Blogs to post their activity.    A link to EGAUSA.org will be added to our homepage.
  • EGA is sponsoring one online class per month - Lightning Rounds
  • EGA conducted a survey of new members asking how they came to/found EGA.  The survey was a 50/50 split between Social Media and invitation from a friend.
  • EGA Monthly lecture series continue and there is talk of videoing the lectures to be able to share in the futurel.
Membership - Robin shared membership information

  • Currently 22 paid members
  • Memberships renew in May; dues will remain at $46 for the May 2021 - April 2022 year
  • A renewal form will be prepared and provided to Caryl C. to include with the April newsletter
  • Regional has been contacted and email addresses corrected for those not receiving their emails
Regional - The Mid Atlantic Regional Meeting is next Saturday, March 20 at 10 a.m.   Caryl will share the link.   Any questions, contact Marian.

Programs
  • April - Linda would like everyone to be prepared to share their favorite needlework resource.   It might be a book, a magazine, a Floss Tube, etc.
  • May - We will have a Zoom Presentation from Catherine Jordan on her needlework maps.   The presentation will start PROMPTLY at 7 p.m.  Watch for your meeting reminder from Caryl.  Linda will ask if she can record the meeting to share with anyone who will miss the meeting.
  • June - Fingers cross - hopefully we can meet outside in June for a brief meeting.   Whiles it has been great to have Zoom Meetings, it would be nice to see everyone in person.
  • July - Christmas is July - If less than 12 are participating, one member offered her home as a location to hold Christmas in July.   Discussion and a final decision will be had and will depend on CCD safe gathering recommendations.
Thank you Linda for continuing to bring us great meeting activities.

Future Programs -
  • We are considering stitching the strawberry as a group project.   The pattern is from Theresa Baird's (Hearts Ease Exemplar) Beelive 2020 free pattern.   See her website here and follow the link on the right-handed side.
Show & Tell
We were treated to some beautiful stitched and fully finished projects from our members.   Check out our Facebook page for the photos.

Tonight's Program -
Member Pat L. gave an excellent presentation on several of the antique samplers she has in her collection.  Her oldest was dated 1809, Elizabeth Stodder.   Pat was able to give us background information on each sampler.

She is lucky enough to have in her collection three that are from family members.  Louisa Well's sampler was stitched by a relative of her husband's.  It was stitched in the early 1800's, done in silks and stitched in the Baltimore area.

Next in her collection is the Mary Elizabeth Burnum sampler.   Also from Baltimore in the 1830's and stitched by the daughter of Louisa Well.

Another in her collection was stitched by Susie Todd, a family member of Pat's.

Overall Pat has a great variety of antique samplers, done in silks, cottons or wools in a variety of styles.

Thank you so very much Pat for sharing.

Next meeting - April 8th - Annual Business Meeting
