April 2018 Meeting

This month's meeting was our Annual Business Meeting.  It started with our covered dish dinner.   Oops! I didn't get any photos of the spread.   It is amazing how with little to no coordination of who is bringing what, we always end up with a great buffet and a delicious dinner.  Thank you to Karen K. for our goodie bags!

First let's cover the business of the meeting -
Committee Reports

  • Treasurer's Report - Our report was read, approved and accepted.   It has been filed with National.  Thanks to our members for the donations that have been sold at Fireside.   They are really helping the bottom line.  We also voted and approved two motions regarding membership dues.   We approved to eliminate the senior discount.   All memberships will now be $46 annually.   We also approved an increase to the cost for plural members.   Plural memberships will now be $15.  In addition we received the MAR grant. We are taking suggestions for teaching and education for the grant.
  • Upcoming programs were announced.
    • May - Carol C. and Linda W. will instruct the Crazy Quilt Pyramid ornament.   Canvas in blue or white was provided to participants at today's meeting.  Those participating should bring the canvas, mounted on stretcher bars and with the outline stitched to the May meeting.
    • June - BJ S. will teach us to make some 'no calorie' chocolates.  Don't they look good enough to eat!
    • July 21 - Christmas in July - Deadline to sign up at the May meeting.  Three projects for $20.
    • July and August - No monthly meetings
    • September  and October - Linda will teach the Christmas Tree project from the December 2017 NeedleArts magazine.  Kit cost will be $10.   Sign up at the May meeting.
    • October 26 & 27 - Smart Day, Virginia Beach.  Beachcomber's Booty will be taught by Ann Strite Kurz.  The cost will be $50.  It is a beautiful sand dollar stitched on canvas.
    • November - Finishing Class
    • December - Annual Holiday Meeting.   The exchange piece this year is a needlework accessory.   This can be a pin cushion, a scissors fob, a needlebook or other small.
    • January 18 -21, 2019  Camp Wannasew, Ocean City, MD
    • 2020 - The Regional EGA Seminar is scheduled for Gettysburg, PA   It is a great opportunity to us....so close.
    • Ongoing - we continue to collect items for the Paraclete Project or for Fireside sales.  Please continue to bring your donations to the monthly meeting.
Next up is our Show and Tell and there was a lot!  I will need to come back and identify the stitcher and the project later.  I wanted to get this post up asap.

Program:  Member Elizabeth V. spoke to the group about her  collection.  She brought fellow doll club member, Carol with her to help.  Elizabeth provided a history of Mary Hoyer as well as Elizabeth's own history with Mary Hoyer Dolls.  You can tell Elizabeth is passionate about her doll collection.    She has a large collection and brought several dolls to share.  The doll company is still producing dolls under the direction of Mary's granddaughter.   The company was founded and it located in the Reading. PA area.  https://www.maryhoyerdoll.com/.     Mary Hoyer set up a cottage industry of sorts by having a small group of woman stitch and crochet dolls clothes and accessories from their homes.  Elizabeth shared her scrapbook where she documents the information on each of her dolls. Thank you to Elizabeth for sharing your knowledge and collection with us

Things are happening at Lamplighter's.   Every month we not only enjoy each other's company and sharing our work, but we are learning new things.   If you live in the South Jersey area, stop by on the second Thursday of the month and see with we are up to!
