June 2018 Meeting

The June meeting was our last meeting of the season.   Our next meeting will be in September.

Business

  • The UFO Challenge has been extended to September 2018.   For your piece to be eligible, you have to have started stitched in before January of 2017.
  • September - For September we will start the Pine Tree featured in the 2017 December NeedleArts Magazine.  Canvas was handed out to those who signed up.   You should have your 'grid' drawn on the canvas and have your canvas mounted on stretcher bars for the September meeting.
  • October - We will work on completing the Pine Tree
  • November - We will work on finishing techniques.  Please feel free to share your tricks and tips and special finishing tools.   We will work on finishing the crazy quilt ornament and the pine tree ornament.    Here's a finished trick - when you are finished the stitching and ready to assemble an ornament, such as the crazy quilt piece, take a photo copy of the piece.   It will allow you to cut it out and assemble it to get an idea of when stitches fall and how the assemble it will look when completed.  For the crazy quilt piece, it will help you get an idea of where you want to place your specialty stitches. Great idea!
  • Katie K. is retiring as membership chair person.  The duties are fairly simple.  See an officer if you are interested in taking on membership.
  • The Biggs Museum will continue its exhibit "Delaware Discoveries: Girlhood Embroidery, 1750-1850" until July 22.  For more information  http://www.biggsmuseum.org

For our meeting class this month, member BJ S. taught us how to make calorie free chocolates!   They were fun and EZ-PZ to do.  Thank you BJ.  Make sure you check out the box of chocolates Linda W. added to our FB page!

We will again host Christmas in July!   An all day session with three different classes.   Please bring a packed lunch and maybe some snacks to share as well as your usual stitching supplies.   Some extra supplies needed for these classes are PAPER SCISSORS and a 6-INCH HOOP.   The date is July 21st from 9 to 3.  Hope you have signed up!  Check out our Facebook page for a teaser I posted about the project I will be teaching!
